Payroll Bank Files (CSV and BACS)
Download a bulk-payment CSV or a BACS Standard 18 file to pay wages and claims from your bank.
Plenix builds the file your bank needs to pay staff in one batch. You can download one for a payroll run, for a selection of claims, or again for a payment already recorded.
Which file to choose
- Bank file (CSV) β one row per person with name, sort code, account number, amount and reference. Most online banking bulk-payment screens accept it, sometimes after matching the columns once. It needs no setup.
- BACS Standard 18 β the fixed-format file used when you submit payments directly to BACS, through your bank's bureau service or BACS software. It needs your BACS service user number (SUN).
Set up BACS Standard 18
In HCM β Payroll β Settings β Paying employees, enter:
- BACS service user number (SUN) β the 6-digit number your bank or bureau gave you;
- Name on employees' bank statements β up to 18 characters;
- Default bank account wages are paid from β its sort code and account number go into the file.
Before you use a BACS file for the first time, test it with your bank or bureau. Banks differ in what they accept, and a test submission confirms the file before real wages depend on it.
Download a file
- Open Accounting β Payroll Payments.
- Open a run on Awaiting payment, or tick claims on Claims.
- Choose who to include, then click Bank file (CSV) or BACS Standard 18.
Each line uses the employee's bank details from their HR record. People with no bank details are left out and flagged so you can pay them another way.
Downloading a file does not mark anyone as paid. Once the bank has sent the money, click Mark as paid.
Keep bank files safe
A bank file contains every included employee's bank details. Downloads are recorded in the audit trail. Store the file only as long as you need to upload it, and delete it afterwards.
