How to Build a Custom Dashboard Widget (No Code)

What is the Widget Builder?

The dashboard widget builder lets you create live tiles from your own data without writing a single query. You pick a data source, choose what to measure, decide how to group and filter it, and Plenix renders it as a chart or a number card — refreshed from live data every time you open the dashboard.

It's available on both your personal dashboard and shared dashboards.

Step 1 — Add a widget

1. Open your dashboard
2. Click + Add Widget
3. Choose Query Widget (the data-driven builder)

Step 2 — Choose a data source

Pick from the whitelisted, tenant-safe sources — for example tickets, invoices, deals, work orders, stock, or projects. Only sources you're allowed to see are offered, and every query is scoped to your tenant automatically.

Step 3 — Define the measure

1. Measure — what to calculate: a count, sum, or average (e.g. count of tickets, sum of invoice totals)
2. Group by — the dimension to break it down by (e.g. status, month, owner)
3. Sort — ascending or descending, and how many results to show

Step 4 — Filter and set a timeframe

• Add filters to narrow the data (e.g. status = open, created this quarter)
• Choose a timeframe for time-based widgets (e.g. last 30 days, this month, this year)

Step 5 — Pick how it looks

• Chart — bar, line, or pie for grouped data
• Number card — a single headline metric
• Give it a title, or let Plenix auto-generate a description of what the widget shows

Step 6 — Save it to the dashboard

Click Save. The widget appears on your dashboard immediately and refreshes from live data whenever the page loads. Rearrange or resize it like any other tile.

Tips

• Start with a number card for a KPI, then add a grouped chart beside it for context
• Use filters to make one source serve several widgets (e.g. "open tickets" vs "tickets closed this week")
• Widgets respect your permissions — you can only build on data you're allowed to see
