Build a Course
Create a course, add modules with notes and video, add a quiz, and publish it so people can take it.
Creating the course
- Go to LMS and click New Course. You can also do this from HCM β Training & LMS.
- Fill in the details:
- Title (required).
- Description, which tells people what they'll learn.
- Category, for example Compliance, Health & Safety, Onboarding or Technical.
- Duration (mins), roughly how long the course takes.
- Required, if everyone it applies to has to complete it.
- Save.
Adding modules
A module is one lesson. Keep them short: one topic or one video each.
- Open the course and click Add Module.
- Enter a Module title, the lesson content, a Video URL if the lesson is a video hosted elsewhere (YouTube, Vimeo, SharePoint and so on), and a Duration (mins) if you want one.
- Save. Modules are shown to learners in the order you add them.
Formatting the lesson
Lesson content supports Markdown: headings, bold and italic text, bulleted and numbered lists, links, quotes, code and tables. Use the preview in the editor to check how it looks. Learners see the formatted lesson in My Learning.
Attaching files
After you've saved a module, you can attach handouts, slides, worksheets or forms to it:
- Open the course and find the module.
- Click Attach file and pick the file.
Each module can have up to 20 attachments, each up to 50 MB. Learners download them from the module in My Learning. Delete an attachment from the same place you added it.
Certificate and skill on completion
Each course has a Certificate and skill on completion section:
- Issue a PDF certificate when a learner completes this course. On by default.
- Valid for (months). Leave it empty for a certificate that never expires.
- Skill awarded and At level. Pick a skill from HCM and the level it's awarded at. The learner gets it marked as verified when they complete the course.
See Issuing and Managing Certificates for what happens next.
Adding a quiz
Open the course's Quiz section to add questions and set the pass mark. If a course has a quiz, learners must pass it to complete the course. See Quizzes and Assessments.
Publishing
Use Publish and Unpublish on the LMS page. Only published courses appear in the Browse courses catalogue under My Learning. Unpublish a course while you rewrite it, then publish it again.
Deleting a course
Deleting a course also deletes all its enrolments, including the record of who completed it. You're asked to confirm first. To keep the history, unpublish the course instead.
