Production Orders

A production order makes a quantity of one item from its active BOM. Find them under Production → Orders.

Creating an order

Click New order, pick the item, and enter the quantity, due date and priority. The order copies the active BOM's materials (scaled to the quantity, with scrap) and its operations. Orders can also come from:

• Make to order on a sales order, which creates one order for each stock line that has an active BOM. Lines already covered by an open order are skipped.
• Firming planned orders in Planning (MRP).

Stock items are made in whole units.

The life of an order

Draft → Released → In progress → Completed → Closed, with On hold and Cancelled along the way.

1. Release. Plenix checks that the components are in stock. If any are short, it tells you which ones. Choose Release anyway to go ahead and issue what is on hand.
2. Issue materials. Click Issue all or issue line by line. To give back material that was not used, enter a negative quantity.
3. Book operations. For each step, record the minutes worked and the quantity done, and mark it Done.
4. Report output. Enter good and scrapped quantities. Tick backflush to issue the components for that output automatically. For lot- or serial-tracked items, enter the lot number, expiry date or serial numbers.
5. Complete, then Close. Closing posts the variance and locks the order.

Hold pauses an order and Resume releases it again.

Costs and accounting

Each order shows planned and actual material and labour costs, the value of its output, and its work in progress. If you use Accounting, journals are posted automatically:

• issuing materials moves value from Inventory to Work in progress;
• booking time moves value from Labour absorbed to Work in progress, at the work centre's hourly rate;
• reporting output moves value from Work in progress to Inventory;
• closing the order posts whatever is left in work in progress to Production variance.
