Production Orders

Track what you are manufacturing, in what quantity, and where.

What a production order is

A production order tracks what you are manufacturing, in what quantity, and at which work centre. It consumes the bill of materials to reserve stock, and moves through planned, in-progress and completed stages.

Raising an order

  1. Go to Production β†’ Orders and click New Order.
  2. Pick the product. Its BOM is applied automatically.
  3. Enter the quantity to build.
  4. Assign the work centre.
  5. Set the planned start and completion dates.
  6. Save. The order is created as Planned and the required stock is reserved.

Running it

Move the order to In progress when the build starts, and Completed when it is finished. Completion is what consumes the reserved components and adds the finished units to stock.

If components are short

The order will show the shortfall against the BOM. Resolve it through purchasing before starting the build rather than starting and stalling.

Quality

Record inspection outcomes in Production β†’ Quality Checks against the order so the pass or fail is tied to the specific build.

Tip: Do not mark an order complete until the units are physically finished. Completion adds finished goods to your on-hand stock, and stock you cannot ship is worse than stock you have not made yet.
