Install the Plenix Gateway Agent

What is the Gateway Agent?

The Plenix Gateway agent is a lightweight Windows service that runs on-site and connects your local network to the Plenix cloud platform. It enables:

• Printer monitoring via SNMP (toner levels, page counts, offline detection)
• Network topology discovery — mapping devices on the local network
• Agentless device monitoring — ping checks, port monitoring, SNMP queries for switches and routers
• Secure tunnel for RDP sessions via Plenix (Enterprise)

Gateway vs Device Agent: The Gateway agent is NOT the same as the per-device RMM agent. The RMM device agent installs on each Windows PC/server for deep telemetry (CPU, RAM, disk, processes, patches). The Gateway runs once per network/site to enable network-level monitoring and printer monitoring.

Requirements

Network	Must be on the same subnet (or routable to) the devices you want to monitor
Outbound	HTTPS (port 443) to gateway.plenix.cloud
Inbound	UDP 161 from printer/device IPs to the gateway host (for SNMP)
Account	Local administrator or service account with admin rights

Installation

Step 1 — Download the installer

1. In Plenix, go to RMM → Gateway Agents and click + Add Gateway.

2. Click Download Installer. The installer is personalised — it includes your tenant token. Do not share it with other tenants.

Step 2 — Run the installer

1. Copy the installer to the target Windows device.

2. Right-click → Run as administrator. The installer requires admin rights to register the Windows service.

3. Follow the installer wizard. When prompted, the tenant token is pre-filled from the download.

4. Click Install. The installer:

   • Registers the PlenixGateway Windows service
   • Starts the service
   • Phones home to register this gateway with your Plenix account

Step 3 — Verify in Plenix

Go to RMM → Gateway Agents. Within 1–2 minutes, the new gateway appears with status Online and a green dot. If it remains offline after 3 minutes, check:

• Windows Services: is PlenixGateway running?
• Firewall: is outbound HTTPS allowed from this device?
• Event Viewer → Application log for PlenixGateway errors

Managing gateways

From RMM → Gateway Agents you can:

• Rename — give it a descriptive name (e.g. "BlueSky IT — Main Office")
• Link to a client — associate this gateway with a CRM company
• View status — last seen timestamp, version, connection health
• Update — trigger an in-place update to the latest agent version

What to do after installing

Once the gateway is online, you can:

1. Add printers — go to Printer Monitoring and add printers reachable via this gateway
2. Add network devices — go to Monitoring and add switches, routers, or any SNMP-enabled device
3. Enable network discovery — Plenix will scan the subnet and discover devices automatically (optional)

Uninstalling

To remove the gateway:

1. On the Windows host, go to Programs & Features → Plenix Gateway Agent → Uninstall
2. In Plenix, go to RMM → Gateway Agents, find the gateway, and click Remove
