Project Tasks
The units of work inside a project, and how logged time flows on.
How tasks fit projects
Tasks are the units of work inside a project. Each has an owner, a due date and a status. Time logged against a task flows into timesheets and, ultimately, into project profitability β so keeping statuses current is what keeps reporting honest.
Creating a task
- Go to ERP β Tasks (or open a project and use its Tasks tab) and click New Task.
- Give it a clear title β someone else should be able to tell what "done" means from the title alone.
- Pick the project it belongs to.
- Assign an owner and set a due date.
- Save.
Logging time
Team members log time against the task from their timesheet. That time is what feeds project cost and profitability, so time booked to the wrong task quietly distorts both.
Keeping it useful
A task list only helps if statuses are real. Stale "in progress" tasks make the portfolio view worthless β review and close them as part of your weekly project cycle.
Tip: Break work down until each task is a few days at most. Long-running tasks hide slippage until it is too late to react.
