Do-Not-Contact and UK PECR (Leads Hub)

Keep a do-not-contact list that every search, sequence and campaign respects, and understand the UK PECR rules on sole traders and B2B email.

The do-not-contact list

Anyone on your Do-not-contact list is never saved, enriched, added to a sequence or emailed by Leads Hub or any campaign. Go to CRM β†’ Leads Hub β†’ Do-not-contact.

Add an entry

  1. Enter an email address (one person) or a domain (a whole company, e.g. competitor.co.uk).
  2. Choose a reason: Do not contact, Unsubscribed, Bounced, Complaint, Data request (DSAR) or Other.
  3. Add an optional note, e.g. "asked on the phone 3 Oct".
  4. Click Suppress.

Added automatically

  • Anyone who clicks unsubscribe in a sequence or campaign email.
  • Addresses that hard-bounce.
  • Replies sorted as unsubscribe, and optionally not interested (set this in the sequence's reply actions).
  • Companies you disqualify with add the domain to do-not-contact ticked.

Privacy by design

Plenix stores only a one-way fingerprint of each email or domain, not the address itself. Plenix can check whether an address is on the list, but the list can't be read back as a set of email addresses. That's useful for data requests: you can honour an erasure request and still make sure the person is never contacted again.

UK PECR in plain English

The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) set the rules for marketing emails in the UK.

  • Limited companies, LLPs, PLCs and similar ("corporate subscribers"). You can send B2B marketing email to a work address without prior consent, as long as you say who you are and include an easy way to opt out. Every Plenix sequence and campaign email includes an unsubscribe link and one-click unsubscribe headers.
  • Sole traders and partnerships ("individual subscribers"). These are treated like consumers. You need consent before sending them marketing email. Leads Hub flags these businesses with a Sole trader badge, doesn't look up cold-email addresses for them, and shows Consent needed against their contacts. Phone them, write to them, or invite them to a landing page or web form instead.
  • Always honour opt-outs straight away. The do-not-contact list does this for you.

UK GDPR also applies to the personal data you hold. Each contact shows the lawful basis recorded for them (usually legitimate interests for B2B prospecting). Keep your privacy notice up to date, and respond to data requests. The Data request (DSAR) reason helps you track them.

This page is a plain-English summary, not legal advice. If you're unsure, check the ICO's guidance on direct marketing.
